The Rest of the Herd

No farm is complete without babysitters, aunts and uncles. So here’s to the unsung heros of the place.

Contessa Luna

The grand matriarch of the farm (at least she thinks so), Tess has been in the family since she was two (and she’s a whole lot older now). She was bred by Christine Warden in Dublin, Virginia - out of a Canadian Sporthorse mare, and by Concerto Grosso. She is registered Oldenberg NA. She originally was Kathy’s event horse prospect - but as happens, kids came along and the eventing never happened. But that’s okay - because Tess has been the best all around horse and companion. She’s a once in a lifetime special girl.

Tess and Leigh have been the best aunties for Bentley as she was growing up and being weaned. Tolerant - but only so much before teaching her a little respect.

Shapeleigh’s Queen Nitro

eigh came to us about the same time as Tess - but she was two weeks old rather than two years. We rescued Leigh, along with her mother and sister (who were of course in foal) from a neglectful situation and she has been spoiled rotten ever since. She is a Tennessee Walking Horse - and a Spotted Saddle Horse (although it doesn’t show). She is the most lovey horse and a sweet soul.

Leigh is a good sport with the babies - and is a good aunt.

Doc Holiday

Okay - before you get judgy about the overused QH name - he really belongs to a family whose last name is Holiday… Doc belongs to our wonderful friend Chandler, who helps us out with the horses and other critters. Kathy and Chandler ride together whenever they can. Doc is a wonderful uncle for Austin - who has gotten too full of his manliness to be out with the girls any more! Doc is patient, but only to a point!! Doc was also a rescue and has turned out to be something pretty special.
